At The Pulhams Men's Shed, we are dedicated to providing a welcoming space for men and women to come together, work on projects, and share their skills and experiences. Our focus is on creating a supportive and inclusive environment where friendships can flourish, and where individuals can find purpose and fulfilment through meaningful activities.

We started with a dream... To build a Men’s Shed on a local recreation ground.
It wasn’t going to take long. But it wasn’t quite as easy or quick as we hoped!
Here is our story….
Our ‘Shed’ started with an advertisement posted in our Parish Magazine in early 2024. Around forty people turned up to our first meeting. Amazing… We were off!

A site had been identified on a local Recreation ground, where the existing pavilion building and groundsman’s hut would be demolished, and our new Shed would be erected.

Our plan was to place five shipping containers alongside each other, then cut the sides away to create larger spaces. A multi-use space, a smaller machine workshop, a galley, and a WC.
By late spring 2024 our plans were submitted to the Council for approval, but we had to wait until late summer 2025 for Planning Permission to be granted.

With further documents to create and submit, detailing our plans to manage the environmental impact of our proposal, it was unlikely that our build could proceed before the weather turned against us. We decided to take action, to make the old pavilion into our temporary Shed and site-hut for our planned build.

Doors and windows were opened up, utilities were reconnected, and the structure was insulated. Then power and lighting were installed, along with a WC and a sink in the small galley.
We have been warm and dry all winter!

We're planning to start our big build in the warm dry summer months.
While we are waiting, we are fitting out our temporary workshop. We have built a workbench, and we’re sorting and refurbishing tools that have been donated to the Shed.

We have also been busy in our local community, with projects completed for our local School and Youth Club. Our members have built a Buddy Bench for the ‘Shoulder-to-Shoulder’ initiative led by The Men’s Shed Association in the UK. Our bench will be located in a place where it will be accessible to be used by members of our local community.
